During the Christmas holidays, Amir and Amira, both ten years old, end up in a shelter with their mother. On New Year's Eve, they are determined to make sure the performance they've been planning for weeks still goes ahead. This leads them to encounter other residents, different challenges, and unfamiliar circumstances. Because of the children's presence, the adults also do everything they can to create a successful celebration.
